Hydration is an Inside Job, Totally!

You hydrate your skin the same way as you hydrate the other organs of your body, by drinking water. Nothing else will do it.

Putting products onto your skin is not going to hydrate your skin. It’s like splashing water onto your face and thinking you are hydrating because your skin gets wet.

A good moisturizer will help you retain the water you have drunk and will give you added protection against environmental stressors, and will deliver antioxidants and other compounds to keep your skin healthy and slow or reverse the appearance of aging. But it will not “hydrate” your skin.

Nothing but consuming good fluids will hydrate your skin.

This is part of the larger point that, for beautiful skin, we need to pay as much attention to the inside as to the outside.

In their excellent article, Holistic Skin Care – Healthy Skin From The Inside Out, WomentoWomen say “ the aging you see in your skin is biological, not chronological, and can be delayed or even reversed with a holistic, natural approach that includes optimal diet, lifestyle and product choices.” The article goes into the details of what to do to make that a reality for you and is well worth a read.

The truth is, beautiful skin is simple and improvements can be fast and dramatic when we align with nature.

Anti-Aging Guide

For best results, all the products you put onto your skin should be packed with anti-aging ingredients, including the cleanser, toner, exfoliant, and moisturizer you use every day, and any other products you use for special treatments.

This Anti-Aging Guide is an easy way to learn about which ones work best so you will know what to look for in the products you buy.

Anti-Aging Guide

When you look at ingredient lists (and this is a key – don’t just rely on the “natural” claims on the packaging), check for the ingredients in this Anti-Aging Guide and avoid products that have a whole lot of other stuff in them. You are likely buying fillers or worse.

Anti-aging is not for special occasions or exotic treatments. It works when you take good care of your skin every day with high quality natural products. And the good news – it’s simple and easy, and the results are fabulous!

Take These Four Simple Steps To Beautiful Skin

Colostrum – A Godsend For Sensitive Skin

Colostrum is a natural wonder for sensitive skin. It can relieve rashes, irritation, redness and stubborn skin conditions like nothing else.

I have been experimenting with colostrum skin cream for a year and have been amazed by the results. People have gotten immediate relief from difficult, persistent conditions. One person had skin on his elbows so sore that for years he had been unable to rest his arms on a desk. He had tried everything to soothe his skin, including prescription medications, but to no avail. Colostrum helped immediately. His discomfort disappeared overnight. Now, where he had bleeding sores, he has just some residual redness.

I’ve seen the same results, over and over, with other skin conditions. So when I formulated my moisturizer for sensitive skin, I included a lot of colostrum!

Colostrum is the first fluid that mammals secrete when they give birth. It is how mothers transfer their immune system to their babies. Fortunately, colostrum from cows is many times stronger in immune factors than human mother’s milk, and it is effective in all mammal species – including us.

But not all bovine colostrum is created equal. The time it is collected is critical. The very best colostrum is secreted in the first 6 hours from birthing. After that, its potency diminishes. And the health of the donor is important – grass fed animals, free of antibiotics and growth hormones – are a must. Then there is how the product is collected and processed. One of the key things to look for is the guarantee that it omes from those crucial first 6 hours of super potency (and don’t worry, there is always more than enough for the calves themselves!)

The benefits of colostrum extend across a whole spectrum of health conditions. It is an anti-aging beauty food, for sure! I recommend you look into it if you have any health issues. And if you have redness, rashes, irritation, or frequent breakouts, you will likely find colostrum a godsend for your skin.

Warm Baths, Such A Joy

So often we hear “don’t soak in the bath if you have dry skin.” Kind of a kill-joy message, if you ask me. I love taking baths with sweet smelling oils. Sometimes I put a cup of Epsom Salt into my bath (when I feel I might be coming down with something.) Always, there are rich oils to use. I’m particularly fond of Jojoba oil. I mix some of my organic moisturizer into it and use it in the bath and afterwards as a body oil. So I was happy to see this on the Natural Body Care Blog

There are many varied benefits to those warm, luxurious soaks many of us love to indulge in. Warm baths aid in dilating your blood vessels and boosting circulation as well as provide relief for those who suffer from back pain, headaches and arthritis. Baths can also aid in detoxifying your body.

One of the sections in the post is headed “What’s The Deal With Salt?” and gets into the therapeutic benefits of bath salts, not to be confused with commercial table salt. Amen to that also.

More Uses For Coconut Oil Than You Ever Imagined

Heart-healthy, heart-warming coconut oil. You’re a nut! You’re crazy in the coconut!
Okay – I’m crazy in the coconut. As you can tell.

I love coconut oil, too. I cook with it. I use it in my products. But there are ideas on this post that I haven’t tried – like polishing the furniture  (don’t do too much of that anyway) or buffing up bronze (ditto). But taming frizz, losing weight, removing makeup – if you haven’t tried coconut oil yet, give it a whirl.  Check out the full post at Health Impact News for more ways to use this amazing oil.

Some bugs you want on your face.

Some bugs are good on your face. Others, not so good.

On its own, the oil (sebum) we secrete through our skin has no antiseptic power. We need helpful bugs to convert it into antiseptic fatty acids.  Without them, we are exposed to invasion by harmful bacteria and fungi, and we can suffer breakouts and worse.

When we deplete our natural oils, the good bugs don’t have anything to work with. This can happen naturally, as we produce less sebum over time. We can also deplete our natural oils by dissolving them with products that contain alcohol and other harsh ingredients. That’s one of the ways extra dry skin develops.

Coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and palm oil are all treated the same way as sebum by beneficial bacteria that live on our skin. They are broken down into fatty acids that protect our skin from marauders. It’s one of the reasons these oils are so healing. And that’s why I use them on my skin and in my products.

This is in addition to their moisturizing and softening benefits. Quite a deal, really.

More about the difference bacteria can make to your skin.

Removing Makeup With Coconut Oil

Coconut oil for removing makeupCoconut oil is ideal for removing makeup. It  will dissolve your makeup and moisturize your skin at the same time, plus it delivers anti-aging benefits that your skin will just love. Quite a difference from the way soaps and detergents work! Plus it costs a fraction of their price.

Skin care can be really simple. It is just a matter of using the right products. Natural products are packed with complex chemistry that will nurture and beautify your skin. Yet they are so simple to use. Coconut oil is a prime example:  you can use it to remove your makeup and while, you do so, it will help to clear your complexion, fight off wrinkles, and keep infections at bayall in one easy step.

Here is how to use coconut oil for removing makeup…

Coconut oil makes an excellent natural makeup and mascara remover. No need to use petroleum-based mineral oils or expensive makeup removers. Just dab a little coconut oil on your hands and rub it onto your face. Wipe off the excess oil and makeup with a paper tissue and wash your face with bath soap. Your face will look fresh and clean. You may want to apply a thin layer of coconut oil after washing with soap and water to moisturize and soften the skin.  Makeup Tips & Tutorials

Reducing Liver Spots

There’s a good article in skincareihub about how to use aloe vera to get rid of age spots, or “liver spots.”  They are signs that free radical damage is accumulating in the body. The blemishes on the skin are where we can see the effects most clearly.

Antioxidants are the solution to free radicals.

For the skin, aloe vera is a good way to treat them. It is rich in antioxidants. The skincarihub post has helpful details on the best way to use aloe vera as a home remedy.

Another option is to use coconut oil.  It also contains antioxidants that can prevent and reduce liver spots and other blemishes. Plus it has powerful antimicrobial properties that can help to reduce breakouts. You can rub coconut oil directly into your skin (it absorbs very well), and you can cook with it and give your whole body an anti-aging boost.

I use aloe vera and coconut oil in my products.  I would not be without them.
